    up date on me

I've been been at my internship at a local police depart ment now for about 2 weeks now. And I love it. I've been mostly working with dispatch so far, but I've been learning alot. I had no idea at the amount of things that go on "behind" the scenes at a department. WOW is that only thing that comes to mind. So far, the internship has only strengthened my resolve to become an LEO. Now I've just got to concentrate on graduating the spring, and hopefully, A department in Ohio will take me on. Will up date again soon. :D
one more semester, then the degree.....then off to find a job where you get to drive the cars with flashing lights, that go woo, woo....:)

Sounds like you are learning a lot. Keep watching and asking questions.
LOL Its funny that there are few people who don't respect a dispatcher's job... until they observe it.

Dispatchers are VERY important ! Either they are GOOD or not. We all know who they are and if they don't improve, they will be gone. We respond to our calls based on what info the dispatcher can get from the caller. The more and better info they can extract, the better prepared we are to go on a call.

What did you do there and how many hours a week month did it take? I have thought about volunteering with West Valley Division.

Well with my University, to receive my 3 units of credit I needed to intern 100 hours which took the semester. Word of warning though if you plan to intern in any LAPD station they first need to do a background check on you which took me 3 months so be prepared.

I volunteered around 6 hours a week, my duties consisted of helping the SLO's (Senior Lead Officers), Seargents and other Officers with paperwork, answering phones, going to get some supplies, but mostly helping them out on their computer. So much crap they have in their computer you wouldn't believe.

Bad thing about my internship I didn't learn more than that. I would have loved to helped out the Auto Task Force or the Detectives. I just wanted to learn more but hey that's life and I made a few friends in that department.

    Must be nice...

I've got to do 120 hours, for 3 credit hours. Its a smaller department, so they love the "free work". And they like the fact I can type, unlike some LEO's . I get to help them with there paperwork, so they get to go home faster. So in these 1st 2 weeks there I've become quite popular.
