My advice is "don't screw up the job you already have for a job you MIGHT get."
Explain your work situation to them and see if they can work around it. I would use the sick day option as an absolute last resort.
True story:
A buddy of mine was in the process to get hired by a police department (he was employed with a different department at the time.) He got a call from his Background Investigator to schedule the next phase of testing. They told him when the test was, and he said "I can't be there that day, I have to work and we're at minimum manpower that day already, can we do it one day next week?"
His background investigator said "Just call in sick that day..."
My buddy replied, "That's bullsh*t, I won't do that to you if you hire me, and I won't do it to them now."
They rescheduled the date and offered him a job 2 weeks later.
