    Questions about my background........

I am 28, honorably discharged Marine Vet.

In recent years, I was married to a abusive ex wife, on our last day together, we were both arrested for BDV (no convictions on either part) and after I was released I immediately filed for divorce. I got a TPO/EPO against her, took drug/alchol assesments, mental assesments for custody, clean bills on all accounts, and recieved primary custody of my two children. No convictions, and I have one traffic ticket like 3 years ago. It should also note, my ex was arrested for violating the EPO and is facing trial for her crime. The divorce left my credit shot. At this time, me and my kids are living with my fiance who makes 100k a year, but I will still need to file for bankrupcy.

I realized my ex was destroying my life, and I left her. But I hope she wont continue to be a blemish on me. My grandfather was retired Beverly Hills, and my brother is active Metro in my city (which I did disclose on my app) and he saw the CO position and told me to try. I got prescreend by the recruiter (he saw my DD 214) and he passed me to take exams, but the background scares me.

Everything is up for question as you know probably better than I. I'm sure you also know that you won't be downplaying anything when they do ask, right?

    Just be honest and true.

If you can manage to NOT file bankruptcy, you will have a much better chance. Most departments are fairly understanding about messy divorces, etc., but they like you to stay responsible for your bills and not stiff your creditors.

A guy I know was an LEO with another department and applied for ours. He had a good reputation and all that, but had a bankruptcy coming out of a divorce and my department wouldn't hire him.

    Apexer,

Yes, I do intend to honest truthfully. I was raised military/LEO with my parents and grandparents and my brother as well, and thats one thing I will never do is lie. Those things happened, it is what it is. But I took corrective actions (ie, divorce and all the evals) to do a 180 to say.

I can try, maybe credit consolidate. But my fiance has a 750 credit score, so that is something she doesnt want to happen is get dinged cause of me. I have I think 30k in debt.

Only other real stress I have is on Tuesdays, my ex gets a dinner visit from 5:20 to 8pm and by court order, only me and her can do exchanges.

If you do a debt consolidation, be sure to check with the Better Business Bureau or someone like that. There are non profit ones that are really helpful and others that will bilk you.

Bankruptcy looks like an easy out from your debts, but it's really not in the long run. It will haunt you for at least the next 7 to 1-10 years.
