When so non-offensive items drop off of your background?

I had no idea there were things on m background until a job ran a check on me. To my surprise there was a threat and check fraud on my record that I didn't even do! I was on a joint acct with my husband and he wrote bad checks. He also took out a loan with a woman who turned out to be shady and she I guess the threat complaint in for both of us. This is not fair I haven't done anything no criminal offenses how can someone just put stuff on here and I'm not made aware of it and it blocks me from a good job! What can I do?

Not sure what means you used to check your criminal history, but it's not possible to have a criminal conviction that you are not aware of. You would know if you had been arrested, gone to jail, and been charged and convicted in court.

Again, I don't know what means you used to check your criminal history, but if it lists you as convicted of a charge in a given court, go to the court and see what is needed to state your case to have it reviewed.

By "ran a check on you", are you talking about a credit check? If so, you will need to contact each reporting agency to tell them your side of things.

What is on your credit report is NOT a law enforcement matter.

Yeah, contact the credit reporting company and ask how you can get that taken off your credit record. But as others have said, it's not a criminal record, but a credit record.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

From the lack of details in the OP's post, I wasn't sure if she was saying a company ran an online background check on her for preemployment purposes, but now I'm really confused, as a credit check would also make sense in the context of the original post.

The issues are very likley to be civil in nature. Bad checks and perhaps a threat to sue or ?? You MAY be able to ge tthis cleared up but it is going to take some work on your part. I think it is a worthwhile investment to at least try to get your name cleared but the waters are muddied when your spouse is involved.

Thanks everyone! They told me (hiring agency) it was on my background report or consumer report. And yes i had no clue because i never rec'd anything in the mail nor was ever visited by a cop about this but its dead blocking me. I cringe whenever i know someone is going to run my background!
