BI Question.. Not about my past or my chances

My question is not if you guys/gals think I will make it through a BI, but how I should handle my current situation involving my BI. I am currently one of three candidates for one position. I turned in my BI packet over 6 weeks ago and haven't heard a peep since. I emailed the Capt. that got me rolling on the BI packet and never got a response. About a week after I sent the email, I called the PD and found out who my investigator was and left him a VM. All I said on the VM was that I was just checking in to make sure he had everything he needed, specifically the transcripts that were coming directly from my schools. That was over a week ago and he hasn't returned my call. None of my personal references have been contacted yet either. It is driving me nuts wondering what is going on. I thought the BI process usually involved an initial interview with the investigator and then one at the end. How long do I wait before calling the Detective again? Thanks.

My BI with a dept didn't contact me for 12 weeks.

Then after that he called me and said it was going to take another 6-8 weeks to finish it.

So relax. Patience is a virtue. Besides, if they don't want you they will make it pretty obvious.

I think you should call back today and demand to know what's taking so long.

Even if he has a good reason for the delay, say, "Well hurry your butt up".

    It'll show you're decisive and are results-orriented.

Or offer to take your BI off his table and do it yourself! You can be objective, right?

As said above, learn some patience, we all have to go through this. Your circumstances are nothing special or unusual.

It is not about you or your timetable. Often, BIs have other functions that are primary and BIs are something tagged onto the end "when they get a few minutes here or there".

If you are dead set on placing multiple calls, I would space them apart bi-monthly (every other week). More often and you run the risk of alienating your investigator.

Thanks for the insight. This is only my 2nd BI (first was for my reserve dept and my investigator was in touch with me quite a bit during the process). I will just sit tight for now and have a little faith in the process. Thanks again.

I think that the BI should be returning your calls and at least give you an update, good or bad. If he has three applicants and there's one open position, it's not like he's overloaded with work (although he probably does do things other than BIs if it's a small department).

If there's only one position open then I'm assuming it's a small department. There could be a couple different reasons for this. The first is that the opening isn't going to be filled for some time, so they aren't in a hurry. The second is that one of the other applicants is who they really want, and they're doing his BI first. If that's the case I'm sure they won't tell you.
