Beginning January 26, 2004, the City of Harrisburg will open recruitment to establish a new civil service eligibility list for the position of Patrol Officer. Applicants must be at least 20 ˝ years old by the deadline/closing date for submission of applications; be a U.S. citizen; have graduated from an accredited high school, earned a GED certificate or attained an equivalent education acceptable to the Commission; possess a valid driver’s license that has not been suspended and/or restored within the past 3 years; and not have been refused vehicle registration for a violation of financial responsibility laws.
Applicants who are hired must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg within 6 months from the date on which (s)he completes probation and must continually maintain City residency thereafter.
Applicants will be required to pass a written test, physical ability test, polygraph or computer voice stress analysis, police background investigation, police academy pre-service physical requirements and reading tests and other evaluatory processes.
Applicants must submit an Official Application for the Position of Patrol Officer to be considered for the position. No resumes or other employment applications will be accepted. Official application packets my be obtained in person on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or by written request to the City of Harrisburg, Bureau of Human Resources, Suite 406, 10 N. 2nd St., Harrisburg, PA 17101. A $10.00 postage and handling fee (check or money order payable to “City Treasurer”) must be submitted with each written request for an application to be mailed. A $25.00 non-refundable processing fee (check or money order payable to “City Treasurer”) is due at the time of filing the application. Applications must be filed in person. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
The deadline for filing an Official Application is 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2004.
Qualified applicants will be scheduled for the physical ability test on one of the following dates: March 10,11 or 12, 2004. Qualified applicants who pass the physical ability test will be scheduled for the written examination that will be given on March 13, 2004. Study materials will be distributed to each applicant at the time of filing an application.
