    Medical question

Sorry to bother you guys, but I just had a quick medical question for any of you that may be able to answer this. I'm in the process of becoming a police officer, and am just about to the final step of the medical examination. Here is my question. I do not have any serious illnesses or problems, and I am in fact in great shape. I lift 4 days a week, and run 5 days a week of 3-4 miles. However, I do take a small dosage of a blood pressure medication to keep my blood pressure normal. Its an ACE inhibitor, its a very common drug. I take a small dosage once a day. Without the medicine my blood pressure is like 145/80, with the medication its 130/70. Basically it helps to keep my systolic pressure down. Other than that, I have no medical conditions, and I'm a very active athlete, and in great shape. Is this a problem? I have been told it isnt, but I felt like I just wanted to make sure. BTW I know a thousand police officers who have high blood pressure. I just dont know if they had it going in. Once again, sorry to bother you'll, and have a good night.

I'm guessing you are going to be fine. They just want to make sure you are not going to drop dead after chasing a bad guy.

How long you have been on the drug will probably make a difference. That want to see that it has been effective for you and has not caused any undo side effects that may prevent you from continuing to take it.

Blood pressure meds are typically not mood or mind altering, which is definately a plus in this situation.

None at all. Ive taken it for a long while now, it seems to work fine. No side effects. Apparently the number 1 side effect people have to the drug is a dry cough for about the first week or two. However, very few people even get that. Thanks for the info.
