    Processing Advice

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to see if I could get some advice on something. I've been in the hiring process now with a local agency since November 2009. Everything has gone very well. During this time, I've successfully been through a variety of stages, including the written, oral, polygraph, psychological, and background check, which all have been very interesting to say the least! My B.I. turned in my background roughly a month ago, and said that he gave me a high recommendation. Interestingly enough, shortly thereafter, I received a form letter email from the department stating that my processing had been terminated. An hour after that email, I received another one stating to please disregard the termination email that I received, that it was in error, and that they apologized for it getting sent by mistake. So of course, I was very relieved. Luckily, my email box allowed me to check the latter email first, so I didn't see the rejection email until after that one.

So moving on, I'm now two months beyond that point, and I checked on the status of my application two weeks ago. I was told that I had made it to the Asst. Chief's desk, and that process cannot be rushed, so I'm in somewhat of a holding pattern.

Of course, I still think about the rejection email that I received, and that maybe somewhere along the line I might be inproperly classified as rejected, when I am not. I am probably just being paranoid, but rightly so, as its been a long process.

Question is this. Should I still continue to call every couple of weeks and check the status of my application? Its a relativley small department, and I don't want to be classified as annoying or overzealous.

The opportunity is very important to me, and I'm not certified, so I want to ensure that I take the right path to employment.

Thanks for reading! Any advice you have would be appreciated.

    Should you? No.

Are you going to anyway? Yes.

The Asst. Chief isn't holding your packet to make sure you call and prove that you're really interested in the job; ready to throw out your app if he doesn't get the appropriate number of phone calls from you. The *** Chief (sorry *ahem*) Assistant Chief has lots of stuff on his plate that may be more pressing to the department than getting you hired. As a top administrator, he's busy administrating and approving new hires is just one of many things he's probably tasked with.

While it's important you you, it's probably not very important to him. Just something else he has to do.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

I don't have a lot of advice to offer, but wanted to say good luck. I've had an application in since October, and only about half way through it. The waiting is absolutely the worst part. Stay positive.

Wow....I only WISH my "long process" was 4 months. My process was 13 months, which is pretty standard. If you're at the asst. chief's desk at 4 months, you've either got perfect timing or you're lucky. :-) Glad to hear you're moving quickly. I know the 4 months seems like an eternity though.

To answer your question, don't worry too much. It's a strange situation, but you're on the asst. chief's desk with a high recommendation. It sounds like you are doing just fine. Be patient and try not to worry. You'll lose sleep over it I'm sure, but I'm willing to bet you are fine. Good luck
