    Background Help

I am 18 years old and about to graduate high school and move on to college and like most people here I strive to complete my goal of becoming a Police Officer.

I am not in need of money right now and I have a question for you guys....
If I volunteer 5 days a week at a local Animal (SPCA) shelter will this hurt or help my chances compared to having a paying job?

And when I finally apply to become a LEO how can I prove that I did volunteer 5 days a week?

Volunteering is laudable, but it is not the same thing as steady employment. Show me a steady reporting record where you go in to a job because you have to, rather than because you are just volunteering (where you can just stop whenever you like).

As to how you prove that you volunteered, you put the name and contact info of who you were reporting to down on the application, and you let the department do the rest.

Thanks, I intend to have a steady job along with the volunteer work. I will just have the cut the volunteer work down a lot when I do.

    Thanks for your input.
