Eh, you never know what popped up during the day, he could have just gotten really busy...it happens. I've been in your shoes so I understand, but the fact is that informing you if you have been hired or not is not as big of a deal to him as it is to you. He could have just forgotten to call today. I'd give it a few more business days before I would call.
BTW- I know people who literally got 1-3 DAYS notice before they had to report to the academy.
