    Here's my story

    I am 25 and always wanted to be in LE. I want to tell you guys my background and see what ya'll think my chances are at successfully getting into an agency.

    Pros;
    -Never been arrested
    -Associates degree in LA
    -Bachelors degree in Business HRM
    -Solid references
    -Rarely drink
    -Never been fired from a job
    -same job for 6 years
    -CCW permit
    -Considering either self-sponsorship in academy or associates in criminal justice

    Cons;
    -Used MJ 10 times (Mainly when I was 16) -- Last time was about 3 years ago
    -2 tickets (1 speeding in 2007, 1 non moving in 2008 violation)
    -Car accident when I was 17 (nothing major)
    -Used adderall 2-3 times in college (3 years ago) during a huge testing week (My roommates prescription) -- Didn't realize at the time it was a controlled substance but once I found that out I never touched it again, it was by no means used to get high.

    Thanks

    These two quotes don't jive. If you've always wanted to be in LE, you wouldn't have used drugs. You will have a MAJOR hurdle getting hired with your drug usage. You should be looking into other career options.

    +1

    I've always wanted to be in LE too, and as a result, I stayed away from drugs completely.

    I'm not trying to be a jerk or have an "i'm better than you" attitude. I don't know you personally, but i'm just stating some facts that will benefit you in your future career decisions. You made some poor choices that are going to prevent you from getting a LE job in the near future. 10 times MJ use is borderline with most agencies, especially in this economy. Throw in the adderall and it pretty much kills your chances. I would also say that a huge red flag is the MJ use 3 years ago, which would make you 22. You're an adult now, stay away from that stuff. Just being honest, it's probably going to be a few years before anyone seriously gives you a shot

My question is while I know this a controlled substance, how is it viewed by police departments as far as a drug goes during a background check? It was not used to get high or anything like that, it was used to aid in studying for the 3 days I used it. Any information would be helpful, thanks in advance!

    This is the 2nd person in 2 days that's taken their roommates pills during college. WTF?!?!
    I personally agree with deputywave's assessment.

    However, depending on where you want to get hired at, you will need to contact any agency you have any remote desire to get hired with and give them your info. Adderall is a Class II drug; prescription amphetamine; a CNS stimulant. You use of Adderall will not allow you to be certified anywhere in Arizona as it's classified as a Dangerous Drug.

    It depends. Did you pay money to "borrow" her???

    No, but you bet there is other forms of payment! Some girls can't keep their mouths shut, who knew?

    Sure, I'm being a jackass here..but there has been a bunch of folks popping up with 'I want to be a police officer, but I slept with a 12 year old girl' or 'I only did crack twice' type history. This is what they are telling willingly. Makes you wonder what they deem to terrible to offer out in a public forum.

    I think the distinction should be made that all make mistakes and bad choices. We speed, have wrecks or do stupid kid stuff. Drugs, major explosives..etc cross that boundary IMHO. You make a conscience decision to partake in things like this. You willingly cross moral boundaries. If you can cross those, what other boundaries would you cross?

    The saying goes something like...'Character is what a man does when no one is looking...'
