    Living Abroad

Hello, I'm considering moving to Japan or Europe in year or so after I finish college to teach english for a year or so. I guess I'm wondering if this is the type of thing that may be viewed negatively by PD's (NYPD is my main goal) or if it is more the type of thing that wont matter one way or the other but will just complicate my background investigation? Thanks.

It wont matter, personally it may make you better candidate if you can learn a secondary language (proficiently).

Just make sure you find a contact in the U.S. affiliated with the company you work with so the BI has a contact in the states to talk to regarding your employment.

    Good luck to you.

Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

I spent my younger years overseas. That was like 18 years ago, when I was 5-9 yo. Neither of my parents could recall addresses for us, but I put the info down as best as I could remember it. They hired me - so you shouldn't have a problem. Probably looks good for a host of reasons. Good luck.

I don't see why that would matter at all, and as stated by others, proficiecy in a second language would help.

There is one key thing to remember when travelling abroad. There are a few things you can do and buy in other countries legally that are illegal in the US. If you engage in any of these activities, it will affect you. Legality in other countries does not make it okay for a United States background investigation. Follow all laws of whatever country you visit, but make sure you act in a manner as though you were abiding by US laws as well to keep your background clean. And believe me, as soon as you mention you lived abroad, your BI and a polygrapher will ask about your behavior overseas
