    Personal Declarations issue

Hello, I just finished turning in my Personal History Statement to my local PD for possible employment to start the background check. On the personal declarations of prior drug use I put no on everything as I have never been charged with drug use or alcohol use. What i did not realize was it is not a question of charges but actual prior use. I used Marijuana in 2001 once as a freshman and never again, i also like to have the occasional social drink every now and then. Since i put no to alchol use and drug use...would it be grounds for disqualification? Obviously if i get to the polygraph test im not going to lie about it...so the question is would the discrepancy DQ me or be an issue? and also is there a way i can inform my BG Investigator of this to change my app.

Sure you can call them and tell them. I would do it sooner rather than later.

I don't know, however, that I necessarily buy that they asked about "prior drug use" and you didn't know they meant all use, even if you weren't charged.

How did you realize your mistake, if you had already returned the questionnaire? Were the questions on a different page than the answers and you just decided to re-read them after you turned the packet in?

I agree with the above. The questionnaire is usually worded to leave nothing to the imagination. Call now, as the discrepency may be otherwise viewed as an integrity issue.

I think you might have already sunk your little boat. I think the questions are made to be idiot proof because PD's don't want to be sued when someone cries misunderstanding.

I would agree as the wording is tough to confuse. However, I would call up and just be honest with them. Better to put on a stupid hat and let them see that you are trying to be honest than to be caught down the road. Down the road being polygraph test.

Anyway, if what you claim is true, you have nothing to worry about. They have heard worse.
