NYPD background check

Hi Everybody. I am here to ask very important question. My best friend, the greatest friend on the world dreams to become a NYPD Officer. He was born and raised in Germany. When he was around 19 yo or so he got arrested. His case happened around 12-13 years ago and was sealed or destroyed already. He has a paper, saying that he has no criminal record from Germany. He is very concern about this one time and he's not sure if he should apply for NYPD because of that. My question is: does they check the background that deep? He is a very very moral person and he regrets what happened back then. Please help. Thanks.

They do look deep. Plus if he was born somewhere else the NYPD will request all police records on him through Interpool. You don't say why he was arrested and what the disposition was. But he shoudl apply, be honest, list teh arrest with details, an dmore than likely, he will be fine.

I am not exactly sure what he was arrested for...Thank you very much for your response.
