    County Sheriff

Well I recieved a lettter from my county sheriffs offfice. They said my application has been reviewed and they set a date to my PAT. I thought it was weird they would have me do PAT before written test.? I guess order is different everywere. Now it seems real. I have been studying for the written for about a month and working out.
In my past I have done...
    1. Stole from a retail store, got caught, but not charged when I was 16.
    2. Speeding ticket in Missouri when I was 20.
    3. Equipment malfunction because my brakes went out on my truck while
driving, making my truck hit a car when I was 23.
Smoked pot when I was 18, about 6 times at party environments. I have taken things from my employers only when the items would be thrown out or have been used with out asking.Thats basically my past.
Should I be worried? Its really wierd how you pick yourself apart, I'm sure other people can agree. I just wanted to no what every body thought about my situation.

Depends on how strict your Sheriff is. Since none of us here know him, we really can't tell you much.

However, it's much better than having a felony, or being in love with and marrying a convicted felon and wanting to be a cop, so you've got a leg up there.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Ha thanks for the response Slaughter.

Well I have taken the PAT and passed. There were 16 people in the begining and 5 left, me being one. So I have the written next Wednesday. I am very nervous, I have been studying out of a study guide book for about 1 month.
They will have me take a Wonderlic test. Has anyone ever taken one of these? I've searched on the internet and have found sample test. I think the average score someone should get is a 20. I scored a 25 on the internet. The sheriffs department told me I need to score a 60 or higher.? I wondered how the calculated the score. So does that mean I have to get 30 right out of 50?
Has anyone taken the wonderlic test for a department before?

Is that the one where you guess how many it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Generally speaking, I think you will be okay. The biggest thing you'll have to explain is the theft I think.

    Thanks Viperphi.
I Passed my written for Sheriffs/Correctional. They sent me a letter saying that they put me in a pool. At the start of the PAT there were 16 applicants and at the written test there were 6. So I wonder if they put me in a pool of 6 (if everyone passed) hmmm...? Anyways at least I have got this far.

Just be 100% honest about everything, if that is the only things that you have done, then you probably still have a shot. The worst thing you can do on an application is lie.

    Good luck in your process
