    Got the call...

So I got my first offer on friday after almost a year of the process! It was a great day. Another agency let me know they will expedite my process as best the can as well on the same day. I just need to sign the conditional and let the Docs poke me
RP and the SEARCH feature has been a huge help...so thanks!

    WTF????

    Congratulations. I think.

Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

He gave a "thumbs up," which leads me to believe he's looking forward to the doc's poking... if not, I'm confused too!

Just the Medical and Psych now. From what I understand, In Va, you have to sign the conditional in order for them to go forward with the medical etc...

looking forward to a poke??? Not if it's like my last physical Being in my mid 30s, I know what happens at those physicals

No offense, but if you still have the medical and psych exams, you are not out of the woods yet. lots of people will fail a psych exam for one agency after passing one for a different agency. It has nothing to do with them being crazy or unbalanced. It could just be that they don't fit into the "personality" parameters that the particular agency is looking for.

And conditional job offers are a complete joke. Right on them they say that at any point in the process they can be cancelled by either party. I think the only reason they exist must be some old lawsuit somewhere, because they mean absolutely nothing.

That said, good luck, and I hope it all works out for you.

No sucky-sucky the excitement out of his progress.

Nope, I wasn't trying to do that. Just want him to be realistic. Until you sign a contract or are given your start date, it isn't a done deal (and these days, even then, who knows).

I full understand the difference between "conditional" and "official" offers. I know there is no guarantee until I get signed off on etc...but I know they only did the final interview with 12 out of over 1000 candidates....but after a long year....any good news is considered great news in our household!

Amen to that! I say all negative remarks MUST be pushed aside at all points in the process. The hiring process is too long and requires too much patience to accept any negativity! So congratulations!

That is significant! I just learned that at BEST the academy I'm shooting for won't be until Jan 2011, so I have an equally long wait. I'm resigning to train or do some school in the mean time until they fire up the process.

    Update:
Started working on Monday. We have a month or so of team building and getting to know the people and property and then the Acad starts Feb 8th.
Should be great...1st solo academy in this county. I couldn't be happier with making this choice. The county has proven itself to be a great organization and I know my wife will be glad to be settled back down in a house.

    congrats

congrats on the start of your new career. may I ask what dept. you got hired by? I'm in process with Henrico and Chesterfield, still waiting to find out when they may start the academy. #1 for me is Henrico, I took my poly 2 weeks ago. Last I heard academy was in June, but also heard a rumor of August now :(
Oh well, congrats to you again.

I am in Hanover. Henrico will likely offer way before Chesterfield. Henrico was supposed to start in March, but got pushed to June to save some $$, but last I heard it may be pushed back again. I have family and friends in Henrico and almost went with them, but Hanover ended up being a great fit for me and the family. Henrico is a great agency and does a superb academy. Chesterfield sent me a letter last year saying they have put off the acad and have not released a start date, and that was a while ago...so your guess is as good as mine.
You can;t go wrong with either, but I know more about Henrico. Integrity is the name of teh game and they have a great grasp on it..fyi.

I know they started the staff interviews in early Jan but are finishing a few polys this week if that helps.
