The only thing I need to work on is, trying to get myself into better shape. If I do get a job offer than I want to be in the best shape that I can get in the next few months to pass the fitness test.
That is my goal. I am up to 3 miles. I can do plenty of pushups & situps. I was told that a good goal is to be able to run 1.5 miles under 12 minutes and 5 miles under 50 min before the academy starts. That is 5 miles at a 10 mile pace. I'm there on both of those. Now, I just need to build upon that.![]()

Well i'm not even close to that lol! But like I said I can use this time to do w/e I can to better myself. So if you do move where about in TX are you moving too? Hope everything works out for ya.
I have my favorite spots as I have lived in the Dallas/ Denton area as well as East Texas with Longview and Tyler. However, I like a lot of Texas. Ultimately, I will move wherever there is an opening. I'm back for the STATE as well as the JOB.
I hope they give us a choice before the academy starts. It would be much easier to move once instead having to move in for the academy and then again to wherever I am stationed.
Keep me up to speed on how you are progressing.

Sweet, I'm currently living in the Bedford area, but i'm really from the west texas area. A small town south east of Lubbock. Austin it about the same drive from where I live now to my home town it's only 3 hrs. Well I know on the app. it ask you is there a certain area you want to work in, but i just put statewide I fig that wherever they need me I'll go. I just got done running a 1.5 in 16 min. Thats were I stand right now I mean it was a comfortable and steady speed for me I could have went hard, but you know! lol.
Anyways hit me back,
I would push yourself a bit on the pace. Maybe go get on a treadmill and set it for an 8-10 min mile pace so you can learn where you need to be. Then stick at that pace for as long as you can. When you are about to break, drop it down to a manageable level (even if it is a shuffle) and make yourself finish the distance. At this point, I would do it every other day for at least 3 times a week.
Right now, I am to the point where I need to speed up more. I'm going to start doing sprints, etc. I am kinda screwed right now since there was a big snow storm up here over the weekend and the streets are still not clear enough to run. To make it worse, there is an ice storm expected today and more snow this weekend. Damn global warming!

Oh I know I can run it harder, I just wanted to see what kinda time I would get it in with just a slow steady pace. But yeah it wont hurt for me time to be better anyways at my normal pace. I'll work on it and be in some kinda shape. Well maybe all that snow will clear so you can get back at it, your falling behind! lol!! I've been doing some speed intervals on the treadmill thats been helping. Anyways dude hit me back.
Also, I started Operation Get the Hell Out of Bed last week. That is a wake up at 5:30 AM so I can get on the PT. I figure that when I move to TX, the 4:30 won't change my schedule. I also want to give a shout out to coffee in general as I have abandoned this simple pleasure so that I don't suffer from 'The Fog' in the AM.
The plan today is to call into Austin to make sure that the dust on my file doesn't obscure my name. Last I heard, it was in line to go to the polygraph guy back in October.

well waking up early wont bother me I already get up every morning at 4:10 to come to work. So i'm okay on there. Well what I heard was that if it's been a yr since you have taken the written test then you would have to retake it. So I don't know if that applies to you or not. Well dude keep me up to date on things.
Not me! I haven't taken it yet. I was getting set up to do it, then the whole process stopped. So, I'm back to patiently waiting for the call to come in.

Great news about the academies (now there are two). Straight from Austin..
They are going to have a short school (8 weeks) for current officers with an active certification and intermediate peace officer certificate that will start in May. Right now, these guys will get guaranteed duty assignments and it doesn't seem to be forced on the boarder for 2 years.
The really good news is that the main academy (scheduled for June 27th) is only going to be 18 weeks long. That knocks 2 1/2 months off of the academy! They are putting more of the training back out into the field for OJT, like accident reconstruction and Intoxilizer machine..etc. It is still up in the air regarding guaranteed duty station.
Great news for those of us that have been waiting!![]()

Yeah I'm set to turn in my app. this friday and take the written test. Well thats good that their maken two academys. I guess there shorten em up due to the time they delayed for the updates at the academy? I need some help here! what is OJT? lol. What parts do you think their leaving out to focus more on the other areas? 18 weeks isn't going to be so bad.
OJT - On Job Training.
They are not leaving anything out. They are just pushing some of the finer points that are better trained in the field back to the field. Accident reconstruction, Breathalizer (thing the drunks blow in during DUI investigation)...that sort of thing. They can still get the training hours in that way and make way for more classes. I understand they are getting critical for people.
Trust me, 18 weeks will be plenty bad. I'm guessing they will step up the PT and get the class for skating by without the extra 2 1/2 mths.
