    Texas State Trooper academy

I am currently in the process of becoming a state trooper. Thanks to the new change in procedure I am scheduled for my poly this monday. My question is about the academy. I currently work in a very very bad part of town, we frequently have questionable characters walk through our parking area. I have rather expensive electronics in my vehicle so i elected to get very dark tint on my windows. Therefore no suspicious person would see what treasures are located inside. What exactly would happen to me if arrived at the academy with illegal tint?

Hi, I'm in the Academy right now.

I'll answer your question with a question. Would it really be wise to show up to THE state trooper academy while intentionally having a violation on your vehicle?

    Just a thought.

I just took a look at the process now and WOW, way different then my app process. Good luck, take it one step at a time, and be patient. Rumor mill has it that they have delayed all the academies for 2010, and the first of the academies will be a special 10 week one for Intermediate-certified Texas peace officers.

Yeah, I intend on having it removed I was just curious. Yes we were notified that the academy we were supposed to have in march was pushed back until july. I was actually supposed to be receiving a call for my Oral Board Interview, then i received a letter saying everything was going to change. I don't know if they changed up how the testing and Background is done, mine was already complete before the changes were made. So poly is next(tomorrow) then i guess oral board, conditional job offer, Psych, and Physical tests. Are you cadets back in the barracks or still in the hotel?

Also, the abbreviated academy has some stipulations with it to my understanding. The guys signing up for it have to sign a contract to stay at the border for 2 years.

It will go something like this if your lucky!

"Recruit, get that tint legal before you come back to the academy on Sunday! Or you will receive a citation!"

Well, that should be a perfectly understandable reason for flaunting the law! Maybe Gov. Perry will give you a personal exemption.

Stop and think how stupid that sounds for someone who wants to get a job enforcing the law.

Who knows if there will even be a July academy. Saw on th website where it just says upcoming 2010 academy. I doubt there is another academy until they get the living conditions figured out, not just putting people in a hotel.

    Woo!

I went to houston today to take my polygraph, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, minus the not moving. Passed it, pretty excited right now! Special thanks to all the sticky posts i read, this website is a huge help to people applying to be a LEO.

I'm applying for whatever academy is coming in 2010 (If?). I have been in the process since September. Looks like I have been held up because of new hiring procedures, short academy in March (don't qualify) - then no short academy and finally the barracks fiasco. I constantly search for any info regarding the barracks. It seems that there is going to be a commission on what to do with the current class and the future academy classes.

I'm out of state in NC, looking to come back to home in TX. I'm waiting on the Poly, but I guess they are doing things different for out-of-state people.

Anyone out there hear anything different?

We are hearing that there is no academy to be scheduled until they fix the barracks.

Not even the inservice troopers will be staying at the dorms. They are almost completely closed down.

I hope they come up with a solution! I called the recruiters in Austin earlier this week, and I actually knew more about it than they did. Amazing what you can find news related on Youtube.

It is hard to believe they would scrub both classes for the year when they are needing people and have the funds for the classes IMO. Having to wait until 2011 will be tough. I'm ready to get back to God's Country ASAP!

Yeah, I'm almost done with my academy. First week we had 6 people with tint violations. They all got repair orders, which in my state (and i'm sure other states) means you have 30 days to fix it or your registration gets suspended.

Oh yeah, we were all doing pushups while they ran tint meters on all 39 cars in the recruit lot, and they took their time. Told us that if the tint was not removed over the weekend, we would all be in the front lean and rest until the tint was removed by the offender with a razor.

IMO, anyone stupid enough to show up in a vehicle that was not lawfully equipped should be fired on the spot.
