Who ever wants to answer. I'm currently going through the process of submitting my application and going through all the steps to becoming a Texas state trooper. I'm asking is their anyone that can me any advice from this point on, and why there waiting so long to have another academy?
Welcome to my world.I submitted my application last year in September. Since then, there has been a stop in the process while the barracks at the academy are brought up to fire code. They also have been working on a new process for applicants going forward. Anyway, they have the current academy living off in a hotel, which can't be cheap. The great hope for those of us in limbo is that they fire up the process again in the next few months so that there is a shot getting into the intern program which is a paid position. I got this info straight from Austin.
Let me know if you have any questions. I have been soaking up any info I can get for obvious reasons. Good luck!

Well the only thing I was told is that there is no academy right now and noone knows when there will be one. But I am going to go head and turn my app. in as of the first of next month. A recuritier told me not to wait no later than march to turn anything in, so i'm turning it in next month. How far did you get into the process before they told you the bad news? What are you doing now? work wise? I was also told that maybe the next academy will be in july or september, but it's not forsure yet. What part of the Dallas area do you live in? I'm in the area as well.
I had just started. My app was turned in, and I was just starting the background when Trooper assigned to it told me that they were changing the process and I had to wait for the polygraph test. I was told that I would get the call the next week. That week, the stuff with the academy barracks went down. Then there was only silence. Then came the rumors that there was going to be delayed academies. Then the main website dropped the date of the next academy (then March) to 'Future Academy in 2010. Now, I wait and try to keep up with any news I can get.
I grew up in Dallas and Longview, TX but have been living up in NC for the past few years. I come to the Dallas area often, and can't wait to get back to TX ASAP. That brings us to my wanting to be in the Intern program so I can at least get moved back ASAP.

Yeah I hear ya, well sorry to hear that man, I bet it sucks to have to play the waiting game for as long as you been. I've always been around law enforcement growing up as a kid and even till now. When I do go down to visit my home town I always schedule a ride along with buddies of mine that are troopers down there. So haven said all that I mean there has always been a passion for it and now I want to pursue it. Anyways whats the news that you have gotten for the next academy? other than the dorms being updated. If you got any other info i'm all ears.
Honestly, what I have heard is all rumors at this point. The recruiter I have been dealing with says they are anxious to get the process going ASAP. As soon as they get a date, then applications will start to move. My theory is that a date will be set once they have a good projection of how long the upgrades will take. I agree with turning in your app ASAP. Better to be in the holding pattern in case something breaks loose.
Your right, it did suck to have the process start, then to it turned off. It would have been worse to be waiting for a final offer though. I decided that I want to be a Trooper, so it is my only application I have in the works right now. This delay did give me time to tie up some loose ends here in NC. Now, I'm ready to roll whenever they call.
Let me know how things progress for you. Good luck!

Well I guess we wont know anything until they say something. Yeah the recruiter told me the same thing. Like I said I already have my app. done just waiting to turn it in. What apps. did your recruiter give you to fill out? I have another buddy thats applying and he got something diferent. I just went to the website and filled out the Hr 1-2 form and the Hr 15 form thats all they told me I needed.
I've been reading the threads that Zack has been writing on a weekly basis about the academy, man thats so awesome it makes me wont this more and more everyday! But that way it sounds like is that the 1st couple of weeks the pt training is harder than hell. I guess I better use this time to get better in shape lol!!! right now i've been running just a mile in 8 min. and he's saying he's running a mile and half in 10 hell I think I would die if i tried that right now.
Keep in touch.
I don't remember the forms I filled out since that was back in September!I filled out all the download ones, and then they had me do one of the long ones again as it was a new form. I think it was for the poly test.
Your right on that PT thing. I have been working out non-stop. I'm up to 3 miles, which are not blazing, but at a good moderate pace. I'm working up to the faster times. I figure that since I have some time to deal with, there is no sense hurting myself by over training. I know I have the Physical Test that I will need to do down with no problems. If I'm fortunate to get the offer, there should be a few more months before the academy starts to polish up on that time.
Oh, they don't let up after the first few weeks. I saw a post last week where they blasted through 5 miles and they were all pumped that no one dropped out. With that in mind, I'm training for war!![]()

yeah your talking about the long background app. that they give you after the poly I assume. Anyways hell your better off than I am I don't think I would even try 3 miles right now. I'm not going to kill myself right now just take it day by day. And just work out a little harder when it gets closer and if I do get accepted.
Yeah sounds like they just drill you the 1st few weeks with pt. 5-6 miles sounds like alot right now, but I guess as times goes by over there you would get use to it. They were pumped about noone dropping out? what does that mean? that their were some people that got out cause they couldn't handle all the running and what not? What about the people that have a hard time running them 5-6 miles? Do they kick em out becuase they have to stop and walk a little bit or what?
'No one dropping out' refers to no one falling back and out of the formation run. Unable to keep pace with the group. I have heard that they will drop you for non-performance (or something like that) if you can't keep up and continually quit. I think this is more geared toward those who they think aren't giving 100% or sandbagging though. This is evident by having people fall out and not get canned over half way through the academy.
I'm thinking that no matter how ready you think you are, no one is going to be ready once the carnage starts. They probably are looking for those who really don't want to be there or will quit when times are tough. It seems the past few academies have been weeding out like 30-40 people during the academy. A few classes ago, they only graduated 60 something!

Well I have no worries if I do get offered a job, I don't mind getting yeld at and I dont mine working my *** off for something I want so much. So that being said I'll just keep doing what i'm doing and hope and pray for and when the next acadmey comes about.
Well keep in touch man, it was nice talking to ya. How do I add you as a friend, so we can talk about things later? Bye
You click on the members name and scroll down to where it says 'befriend XXXX'. I did this already on yours and it sent you a friend request. Keep an eye at the top right of your page where it says Welcome, XXXX. That is where you can deal with all of your messages. Let me know when you get that, and we can deal with the 'how to' questions on there instead of on the board.
In the mean time, it is always easier waiting when you have others in the same boat. That is what is great about RP, as you can get a wealth of information off of these boards. I highly recommend taking the time to go through the threads and getting as much intel as you can. There is a search function at the top right of the board (the blue bar) where you can search questions from the history. You will get smacked if you post a question that has already been discussed or post a topic in an unrelated Topic Tab. (i.e. posting background questions in the PT area). It also frowned upon to ask the same question on many different threads.
Good luck!
