Kind of a long post- apologize in advance. I am 19 years old, so I still have about 3 more years until I'll start applying at Departments. About a year ago, I became very serious about getting a job as a police officer after I finished college. Yes, I was a stupid teenager. I smoked pot less than a handful of times my senior year of high school. I did try adderall once, and that's it as far as drug experimentation goes. That was really just a matter of hanging with the wrong group of people; something I got myself away from fast. I'm one of the many who has partaken in underage drinking, although I have really cut down seeing as it can't be a positive thing towards my career goal. That's about it for my faults, I was never a "bad kid" by any means. I never really got good grades in high school and ended up going to a community college my freshman year where I realized what I wanted to do with my life. I turned around my life after high school and ended up getting in to Bowling Green State University this year, majoring in Criminal Justice. This past summer I got a full time job as a Loss Prevention officer at Six Flags which had to be the most interesting and rewarding experiences I have had in my life, dealing with all types of criminals. I have had 1 speeding ticket, and 1 ticket I got 3 years ago for backing into someone's car literally the first day I got my license. I guess my problem with my background is the marijuana and drinking underage. How will it affect how departments look at me, even though it will have been about 5 or 6 years since I have smoked by the time I am applying? Also what are your departments views on past underage drinking? Thank you for reading this.
