Tick tock, tick tock, this waiting is KILLING ME!

Well, I have finished my initial test, Oral Board, Polygraph, Physical Agility and Psych, now I'm waiting on the rest of the talent pool to catch up. There were three groups of aprox 50 applicants working their way through the process. I was in group two. Now I'm waiting for group three to complete the process before they decide which six of us will get a job. I really feel like I have a good chance. I'm thinking they will be choosing from around 30 applicants. There is at least one current LEO and a couple of former MPs that I feel have the jump on me but other than that I feel like I'm near the top of the list. With that said, I just quit a six figure job (to move with my wife's job) and this sitting at home and waiting is driving me NUTS!

The hardest part of the application process is realizing that you, as an applicant, are on the absolute lowest priority of the agency's list. Their top agency is enforcing the law, answering emergency calls, and doing other jobs that are mandatory for law enforcement agencies. It sucks while an applicant, but for those that are on the job, you actually get a sense of why everything else outside of hiring is a bigger priority. Just do your best to be patient, and be ready when the next step comes up.

Well, no one told you to quit your job. That's a decision you made, so b!tching about it as if it's the department's fault is a little weak, to say the least.

I don't think he's b!tching. I think he is explaining his frustration with the resultant wait.

    But maybe he is...

I feel your pain. I'm in a similiar situation. I've just been keeping myself busy with classes and spending time with my family. If I get the call or letter they want me to attend the academy I won't have much time for my family fir quite awhile so I'm making the most of my free time now.

But yeah, the waiting game is hard especially when you are so close to the goal.

I second that. I keep hoping that my brain will forget about it but it doesn't.

Not b!tching or faulting anyone for quitting the job. I pretty much had to quit when the BI called my work. I knew that going in and decided that it was a chance/risk I was willing to take. I'm not upset at the department at all. Actually things are moving along probably faster for me than for most. With that said, it still sucks having to wait. I understand the process and I understand that I have to wait on the rest of the applicants to catch up. My head is just spinning with the wait.

I guess now I have something to take my mind off of the process. My wife just got two blue lines on her pregnacy test!

My last post was probably a little rough around the edges, sorry about that. Your post above helps to clarify things, and truth be told, I don't know a single applicant or former applicant (myself included) that hasn't felt the way you do while in the final steps and just waiting to hear something. It's tough, especially when your not currently sitting tight with a steady paycheck until you get an offer. Hope things work in your favor and you come back to post that you got the offer.

    I feel your pain

I have worked for two agencies in two different states (NC & TX) AND as a MP in the USMC before I got out chasing more money. Got the money, but never found happiness...so I'm back in the running for a LEO position again! Each time, I felt like the wait was going to kill me....and similar thoughts are floating through my head right now.

My hats off for the fella turning to be a LEO from the six figure job. Those are the guys that WANT to be there as apposed to many who are just trying to weather out the job market for now. They make better cops!

    Good luck!
