    Stressing Out About Background

    Hello all,

I am a little over a week away from taking the written test for Fairfax County Police. I am not to worried about this or most of the other portions of the hiring process, what I am worried about is the background check. I have two DUI's from almost seven years ago(all conditions from the court have been met), some minor marijauna used from high school, and a few speeding tickets. I know departments have become less forgiving about things like this and I am just wondering if things like this will be automatic disqualifiers for me. Any information would be appreciated.

If you make it to the lie detector portion of the process, expect to be asked questions about drugs, marijuana, and alcohol, and be prepared to be completely honest before and during the test.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

From reading their website it would seem that it's not an automatic DQ. Two DUIs is a big deal but all you can do is try.

If I were Fairfax, I might have some heartburn about insuring and letting someone drive my police car when they have displayed a pattern of intoxicated vehicle operation.

Not an auto-DQ, but quite an uphill climb.

Second that thought. And when I have a choice with guy who has no DUIS's in his past or a guy with 1 or a guy with 2, my last choice is a guy with 2. Considering the applicant pools are flooded right now it will definately be a uphill battle.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

    GoDirectly2Jail,
I understand your concerns, I am hoping that the length of time since my DUI's and the fact that I have no other alcohol related offenses that it will show that I have changed. Also as part of my plea agreement I had to complete approve treatment program.
