    FLETC legal / written material(DUSMS)

Hello all. I am a current applicant with USMS. I am complete with all portions excluding the FIT. I have been reading alot on FLETC in general, and alot of the discussion always reverts to physical schedule. Which is the least of my worries. I am a DOD police officer, but a rookie at that so my legal experience is minimal (altho I am learning from a retired new jersey detective, who is like a play book of police knowledge). Is there any material I should be reading such as a law prep book or such? That may help on the written testing. I am prior military, but needless to say police work in Iraq (infantry) is not quite the same as in the states, as many of you know. So to restate, is there some legal materials or written information that would help to study up on, with the testing. Thanks for any help, sorry kind of long winded post.

There is no need to study up on any legal material before you arrive. You are given adequate instruction and ample time to prepare for exams. The best thing you can do to prepare for CITP / BDUSM is remain in good physical condition and set yourself up so you have no outside distractions while at FLETC.

    That sounds reasonable enough.

Thats a bit reassuring, thanks. I was kind of just stressing that, assuming alot or atleast some of the other classmates will be local, or state troopers, with alot of experience. I was assuming id be behind in that area. Stubs how does FLETC run christmas, im assuming they shut down? I dont expect to be there by the end of the year, as im still waiting on the call for the FIT. I do have a baby that will be born on January 10th(approx). Id like to be there for that. However fletc is the priority, when would you expect classes to start up, Jan / Feb? Thats my most logical guess, but thats just a guess. Thanks, Im sure these questions gets repetitive after X amount of hundreds of times answering them.

With the number of new hires expected this year, classes will likely start very soon after a budget is signed off. In fact, to get all the numbers in that are supposed to be hired, we would HAVE to get started very soon.

There is no long hiatus over the holidays. For those that I know who attended over the holidays, it was a couple long weekends each for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

There's a thread with pretty good FLETC intel (not USMS-specific, but good overall info): Lessons learned at FLETC

It would not surprise me in the least, if more than one CITP / BDUSM class started between the beginning of the fiscal year (1 Oct) and the conclusion of the calendar year.

I see. Thanks for the good information. I think its probably a good thing not to do a long break like 2 weeks for x-mas, keeps yourself more focused.

The hardest part about FLETC is getting there.

As an agent who has worked with Deputy US Marshals, the fact that you can read already puts you at the top of the class...

I kid, I kid....good luck to you man.

Be patient. We are still in a continueing resolution. While they CAN start a class or 2 (as last year's budget had them funded), no one is real anxious to do much until we get a budget signed off.
