Traffic violations on police application please help

So I passed the POWER test and Written test and placed 7th on a local PD's list. (would have place 1st but didn't have bachelors at the time) now when I was filling out my application it asked me about traffic violations. For some reason a police officer who had just given me a ticket said "once your done with your supervision, it wont be on your record" leaving me with the impression that I only had to state recent convictions of speeding. well after I received my driving record and seen 4 tickets on there dating back to 05 and i had only marked the most recent speeding ticket on my application i was nervous.

Does this make me look like a lieer on my application?

will my application be thrown out when it comes time to decide to give me an interview or not?

It suggests a lot of things:

    1. You lack the ability to follow simple written instructions.
    2. You lack thoroughness and attention to detail.
    3. You were untruthful in completing your application.
    4. You appear to average almost one traffic citation per year, which reflects poor driving habits, irresponsibility and difficulty in complying with the law.
    5. You don't take the application process too seriously.

All of the traits that I have listed above are minimum requirements for the position you are seeking. It would appear that you are lacking many or all of them. Under the circumstances, you may have a hard time squeeking through the background.

I agree with the others but here is what I would do. I would call the PD today, tell them that you think you misunderstood the application in reguards to traffic violations and ask to speak to someone who could update your information. Not really sure if it will help you at all but it can't hurt.

Did the application say to list all violations in the last "xx" months or years...?

If it only said to list the last 3 years, which is what most all apps I have filled out have asked, then I think you will be in the clear, assuming the ones you missed were beyond the 3 year mark...

Even then, when your BI starts they will see everything and you can give your explanation to the BI as to why you only listed the most recent violations... I really don't think you have anything to worry about here, unless you were trying to cover something up...

If this is the case then I wouldn't call. I was making an assumption based on the applications I have filled out. They have all asked for any and all speeding tickets, which was tough for me since I'm 33 and have been driving since I was 15! Not that I had a lot, I just couldn't even remember what year some of them were.

thank you for the kind advice, i was very depressed about the situation. does the BI start before or after the interview? if it starts after i can explain myself in person right? otherwise yes i do have to try and clear myself. my intentions were not to decieve, lie,or anything like that.

maybe if i can present that i grad. with a 4.0 gpa and 4th in my class at UIC as a CJ major and PSY Bath. that could show something about following simple instructions/details, and i dont have any accidents.

All departments are different and they don't follow a set procedure during the hiring process. I'd contact the department immediately if you feel you need to make a correction.

I've had interviews before the BI and vice versa. Good luck.

You've GOT to be kidding me! A 4.0 GPA in CJ and Psych and you can't properly capitalize, spell or structure a sentence???

I won't tell you what I just made "UIC" an acronym for....
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

One of the BIs here just found out a app did not tell him all of the tickets he had on his record.

He lied, and isn't going anywhere.

just looking for some advice !

    Sgt. Slaughter, Roger dat
I didn't know I had to be so proper on these forums to impress jerks that like to criticize and pass judgment to compensate for their own insecurities; Police officers like your selves, are the reason law enforcement has such a bad reputation in society. Maybe you should take some advice from your mother and if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.
