The thing with this process is simple: If you haven't heard anything, or gotten the infamous "Thanks for applying but..." letter, then you're doing okay....usually.

Not the case with NYPD. If you are on pysch review chances are thats where you will stay unless you push them to look at your file. This is the worst thing to be on because its impossible to get a straight answer from anyone. Many have got off this review. others just dont here anything for over a year then get a letter that they failed. As bad as it is, i think it has even gotton worse this year with the pay raise and lack of people being hired. If you dont make it in and out of the process without any speed bumps then you just may be put at the bottom of a pile and never looked at again. This is due to the surge of applicants along with the fact that if you exam is New you have no chance for a long time to come anyway.

In a lot of cases with NYPD from what I've heard from other people joining them is exactly like the poster above me said. Unless you really push them to get off psych review, you're going to sit there and miss out.

NYPD you need to be somewhat proactive if you're on hold for anything. Additionally they won't always say "you're not being hired." Your list will just die without you being hired. They're also slowing down in their hiring drastically, and only hiring about 250/class (500/year), a large majority of those being former cadets being promoted from police cadet to PPO (probationary PO). So unless you're one of the top 100 eligible candidates, who isn't a cadet, you may never get a call.

Your best bet may be to wait out the current economic situation. When the economy is high they higher more officers, with less people applying. Luckily I can't finish the BI for 3 years since I'm too young to go through those stages, and hopefully the economy will be better again.

nothing you can do my friend..you have entered the infamous black hole known as psyche review....in more "normal" (if you could call it that) times when they were hiring more you might have gotten a better chance at getting called, but the way things are now, I think you should apply to other agencies as well because NYPD is looking far away for you right now. So just sit tight with the NYPD and apply other places in the meantime..need a back up plan son;)

Appeals are very rare in getting changed..you are going to have to hire an attorney which is going to cost you plenty..my advice is take the job as the park ranger and reapply(take a new test) in a couple of years.you might have a better chance then..but you are beating a dead horse with that appeal, trust me
