    Owning a small business

Sorry, this is probably the most appropriate area to post this.

How much would owning a small business help in the hiring process? Here is the scenario: I am going to be making some money, and claiming it for income tax purposes either through starting my own business, or just claiming it as normal income...there would probably be LESS expenses for myself if I do NOT start the business, so...does owning a small business make a big enough impression on police department hiring squads to warrent me losing some cash by starting said business?

Did I confuse you? Let me know if I did.

Employment is employment. However, managing employees, payroll and in general running a business certainly LOOKS like you are a capable individual in the world of business. That doesn't translate into you being a great LEO but it still looks good in my opinion.

I wouldn't be doing much of that at all though. All I would have, is myself, and MAYBE one other guy...that is if he doesn't want to just get paid directly from this lady we will work for. If he decides to let me pay him from the company books, that will be the most complex thing I would be doing.

What I am trying to get at, is that this is going to be a very small business, but it would still cost me some money to set it up and all that. If this isn't going to pay decent dividends in terms of what a PD hiring sqaud would think of this, I would rather save that money, and just claim the earnings without setting up a business.

Ok, thank-you. I am going to think about it some more...it is a tough decision. It is something that could eventually grow as well...I suppose even though it may be small to start off with, it could prosper in the future.

I agree with Mscap...though please take my personal advice...*family experience* it is not as easy as it appears. LOL Having a business, even a small one, incoprates wearing many hats.

    But why?

But of course it brings into question why you would want to give up a successful business to be a LEO and make less money. What if things go wrong and you mess up your credit?

If I start a business, and for some reason it takes off and I make millions of dollars, I would still want to be a LEO. I don't really understand your question.
