The point of an extensive background check and interview process is to see who's mature and responsible enough to wear a badge. So why not make age 18 the "official" age that you can be a police officer?
I know for a fact that I can be a good police officer. I'll be turning 20 years old this year and I'm very mature for my age. It pisses me off that other immature brats of the same age, give the mature folks a bad name.
A SIDE NOTE: Does anyone else believe car insurance companies should treat everyone differently?
All insurance companies say "oh, since you're 18/19/20, your rates are going to be blah blah blah". And many times it's ridiculously high.
But have they stopped and thought that "hey, maybe THIS 18/19/20 year old is a responsible driver, so let's start their rates off low"?
I think every new person applying for car insurance should get low rates. If they screw up, their name and whatever else should be put into some national database. This way, future insurance companies will know that he/she is a risk.
