And that is a distinct possibility. However, tons and tons of research points to the fact that diabetics not may, but WILL live a normal life with a normal life span given they keep tight control of their disease. Now that being said, things do happen. If unfavorable situations present themselves with a diabetic police officer, then the department is more than able to review that individual to see if they are still fit to serve. Does that explain it any better?

Neinta....His medical records were thoroughly examined and they allowed him to continue in the academy. He had to pay 300$ out of his own pocket to have this stuff sent all over the state to MCOLES doctors and what not. But he was cleared.

From my roomate with the condition..."You can not be eligible if your disease is not under control"

So I think this puts the arguement to rest.

I completely disagree with that statement. I understand what you are trying to say - give you a shot, and don't automatically think you are not qualified.
HOWEVER, if you are an officer and have an "unfavorable situation" and you are not at your best, then people can die. No PD is going to want to test their officer's abilities like that. That is why there are strict requirements. They will look at past history of how your 'disease' has been handled, and if it has presented problems for you. They aren't going to give you a gun and take the chance that you'll do ok.

No No No...you totally misunderstood what I was saying. By "unfavorable situation," I mean something like kidney damage or nerve damage. Something that is loing term. I dont mean something thats going to happen suddenly and impair someones ability to perform. Hope that clears that up.
