Any sites that list what departments are hiring?

Ive been looking through city websites for months looking for places that are hiring with little success. Most of these police websites are terrible and rarely updated, and of course theres a lot of departments that dont have websites at all so Im missing a lot of opportunities, Im sure.

I know about http://www.policeemployment.com/ but thats lousy, only having a few openings nation-wide. Im looking for something like the Wisconsin Department of Justice website. They have regularly updated information about what departments are hiring, but its only in Wisconsin. Im mainly looking for departments that are hiring in the Midwest (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio in particular). Any help?

    911jobs, as Group9 says.

Actually, the Sunday papers from any larger town are good and the community college where our local police academy is held has a bulletin board with such ads.

Maybe you're not looking hard enough??? There are a number of sites out there with listings and they don't charge a fee.

The two above popped in my head. Check 'em out.

Here are a few sites that I like:

This is a pay site, but you could still get information on what departments are hiring. You could also find out about firefighting jobs and EMT jobs, if those interest you as well. Check out the site though, you may not be disappointed.

Probably one of the best sites for cops. (Why else would the site be so cockey as to be named Officer.com as if there was no other sites for cops? Just kidding.) This site gives information not only on American agencies, but agenices throughout the world, as well as links to personal websites from cops from any state. It also has articles. It doesn't seem to be a pay site, so it's safe to check out. (Don't be surprised if some of the links cited on this site don't work.)

This place even has their own number: 1-866-304-TEST. I think this place is based in New Jersey, not sure. It was from here that I found out about a police job fair in Parsippany, NJ.

This site is mainly for job postings. You could have them contact you whenever a new job has been posted, like they have been doing for me.

This is a really bad site. I just listed this so you would know which site to stay away from...just kidding!

I would say that the absolute best and safest way to know what department is hiring is to look up the department's website manuelly, through GOOGLE or something like that instead of using these police sites, because not all departments are going to use these sites. And these sites may not always update their information.

One way I was looking for cop jobs was to look at the U.S. Census webpage (www.census.gov), looked up cities on the east coasts with over a hundred thousand residents (my own preference), then went to GOOGLE to search for police departments in those cities. In this way, I found out that two departments were hiring. Now wasn't that smart of me :-)

Or if you're not as picky as I am as to population of a city, you could pull out any ol' map and pick out some random city in the Midwest and search for it's police department online to see if it's hiring. (Of course, not every department seem to have its own website, or it may have a plain-looking one with just a contact number.) You don't want to solely depend on police sites for job offers.

I love your sig, K9, that was a great movie!!

I have found the blue line to have a ton of great listings, but is a little pricey.

Yeah, thanks. I found a couple of decent looking openings from those sites, but theyre all of the ongoing hiring variety so thats not so promising. And I wouldnt pay for any service. I was using Google to search for the website of every town in my state for a few days and for what few results I got, it wasnt worth it.

I suppose the best way is just to use an atlas or the census website to look for departments in cities over 50,000 or whatever people. I tried that before on a limited scale and didnt find much, but I guess I just have to look again.

All right, JDM, I have here cities from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ohio with 50,000 or more residents.

    -Indiana (Besides Indianapolis - capital)
Anderson, Bloomington, Elkhart, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Hammond, Lafayette, Muncie, South Bend, and Terre Haute.

    -Illinois (Besides Chicago)
Arlington Heights, Aurora, Berwyn, Bloomington, Bolingbrook, Champaign, Cicero, Des Plaines, Elgin, Evanston, Joliet, Mount Prospect, Naperville, Oak Lawn, Oak Park, Palatine, Peoria, Rockford, Schaumburg, Skokie, Springfield (capital), Tinley Park, Waukegan, and Wheaton.

    -Wisconsin (Besides Milwaukee)
Appleton, Eau Claire, Green Bay, Janesville, Kenosha, La Crosse, Madison (capital), Oshkosh, Racine, Sheboygan, and West Allis.

Some larger agencies (but not all) take continous applications. Once they get so many and see they'll have openings, they set you a test date to start the hiring process. That's the route I took and got in.

Also, don't limit yourself to cities, check out County agencies to.
In God we trust, all others better show me their hands.
