    LAPD Citizenship Quailification

I dont get something about LAPD Qualification I was wondering if someone could put it into better terms for me just a littile confusted it states

"The City of Los Angeles requires that a Police Officer candidate be a United States citizen, or that a non-citizen be a permanent resident alien who, in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), is eligible and has applied for citizenship.

During the selection process, each non-citizen is required to prove that USCIS accepted his/her application for citizenship prior to the date the Police Officer written test was taken.

California State law requires that citizenship be granted within three years after the employment application date. For information regarding citizenship requirements, contact the USCIS. "

The part that say "California State law requires that citizenship be granted within three years after the employment application date." Does that mean you can be a non citizen and still apply for the LAPD?

Seems pretty straight foward. If your not a citizen you must be a permanant alien who HAS applied for citizenship and that application must have been accepted. If it has and youve been hired you must be granted citizenship in 3 years or your out.

If you think this stuff is hard to understand wait till you start reading the secitons of law.

That the way BIG reads it & it doesn't seem all that confusing.

Law is actually not a problem for me I am Criminal Justice student. That being my status I am allowed to ask questions. I take electives so I know what I am doing when I become a cop, and not breaking statues and police regulations.

Nothing better than a know-it-all CJ student telling cops he knows the law (and then get's pissy when it's explained that a statute means exactly what it says).

The local college where I live has a pretty well known CJ program. It is a treat to deal with a CJ major when it comes to a traffic stop or an arrest. They know so MUCH more than I do when it comes to the law

I take it that you are at least a resident alien. If you haven't already applied for citizenship I wouldn't bother. It can take 5+ years to complete the process.

Future_Dea, what is your country of origin and where were you raised in that country?
Not sure if it's an age thing or just a personality issue, but a little bit of respect goes a long way when speaking with individuals in law enforcement.
I'd even say that it should be expected, especially if that is a career you desire.

I'll even go as far to say that I can be stubborn sometimes, but I will bite my tongue as to keep the respect if I disagree.
