Oral Board: They changed their minds

Hello everyone,

Well I had something interesting happen regarding my oral board interview. It was a few weeks ago, my B.I. and I thought it went well outside of some nervousness. But the he called me saying they did not recommend me for hire at this time without a clear reason. So I was then told I could re-apply in 1 year, and that I would receive "the letter" in the mail. It never came.

Fast forward a couple weeks later, my B.I. called me today and said, I have some good news for you. You have been re-evaluated and we would like you to continue the process for the May 09 academy.

This seems a bit unusual, but of course I'm not complaining at all, it truly was good news. Anyone have any opinions on if this a common occurence? I will probably ask my B.I. later why it was turned around. I just didn't want to "question" it at the time of his call.

That would be my guess. Someone dropped out of the process that they were going to hire and you were the next best prospect. Looks like you may have just got lucky, so I wouldn't question it.

I thought it may be something like that, but either way it was just curiosity on my part. I definitely would never question it, that gift horse has been good to me today :p

So I suppose we can disregard the part of my post that said "I will probably ask my B.I. later why it was turned around." I had literally just gotten off the phone with him when I posted that here.

For what it's worth, I want to thank Roger Dat and others for the occasional slap of reality during this process ;) I think we all need that sometimes when we are just starting out.

Don't worry, once your on the department if you start screwing up, one of the older officers will sit you down and have a coming to Jesus meeting with you.

I'd be happy and not question the call... I'm still waiting to get that call after my oral... several departments in my area are hiring for the July academy which starts on 7/6, which just happens to be my birthday... best one of my life if I'm able to start the academy...
