    credit check

I am new to the forum and have found several post about questions related to the credit portion of the background check. I have different circumstances however and would be curious as to your thoughts.

I am 23 years old and have been employed by the same company for 4.5 years. I have excelled here and have been promoted quickly, however, due to financial problems and a general discontent with my current situation, I decided to move on from my position with this employer. I will however be given a glowing letter of recomendation and many solid references.

My wife and I have two children, both of whom were born when we had no health insurance, and as a result we came on hard times. The trouble began approximately 3 years ago and we did everything we could to avoid bankruptcy but because of wage garnishments we are in the process of loosing our house and have decided to file. I am desperately wanting to persue my dream of becoming a law enforcement officer, however I am extremely nervous about what a fresh bankruptcy will do to my chances of getting into the academy (in Montana).

Financial records are checked because you may encounter large sums on undocumented cash, drugs, or other items that could be easily converted to cash. If you are in financial straits, the temptation may just be too great.

Also, how you choose to manage your financial affairs is a window into how you manage other aspects of your life.

This will vary GREATLY from department to department, so give it a shot.
