    Etiquette question

Had a quick question that I was hopping someone could give me some insight on. My Background started a little over a month ago, everything to my knowledge went fine (just as I knew it would). About a week and a half ago my Background officer called my parents to ask a few questions and then told them she would be done with everything in the next few days. Well since then I still have not heard from the PD.

In my initial letter from my BG investigator she asked me to refrain from calling on a weekly basis asking for a status on my BG. I have done this and not called a single time.

My question is I guess is, would it be ok to call once just to see if everything was still in track to start the academy in a few weeks. (This is the one they told me I would start if everything checked out).

    Thanks a lot,

No news is usually good news even though it is hard to wait. M ybackground took 4 months. Unfortuantely background investigators are also usually assiged other cases and duties at the same time. Also the department may be experiencing some cuts or hiring freeze due to the poor economy. If you havent been told your out yet then thats good news.

Thanks for the quick response. The only reason I am worried is since everything was going good, I put in notice at my current job, now I am just worried everything might not be inline for this upcoming academy. Not that my job wouldn't let me stay or anything like that.

No hiring freeze with the Dept I am applying with, they are trying to get on 400 officers this year.

Nothing is guarenteed until they say YOUR Hired. They should have told you not to put in notice until you were notified.

Well they told me after my Board interview that as long as my background worked out I was pretty much hired. Also a few officers I took a ride along with said they where hired 2 days before the academy started with this dept. Being I work for a large but, family owned business I was not willing to leave them completely in the dark, especially since we are very low on qualified employees at the moment.

I don't think it's at all unreasonable to call once a month and inquire how the process is going.

I was officially notified about 4 days prior to starting the academy. I told my job I was probably leaving in July back in March, but didn't have a definite until a few days before, and thats when I gave my official notice. They dropped the ball on having me train someone for my position and I had to try to do it in 4 days during the busy season.

Well I went ahead and emailed my Background investigator. (Figured that was the best way since that is how she has been communicating with me) File was finished this week, passed off and she said they should be calling this coming week!!:D:D

i hear ya, thats the same boat im in, i had to tell my current employer that i had applied with my dept cuz they were going to call him for a reference, and everything is happening in a rush cuz the academy is starting next week, so i had to put in my two wks notice, fromally...and now all that i have left to wait on is my results from my medical...and its driving me crazy, technically friday is my last day working here, but i still am unsure if i have a job to start on next week...
