Ocean City is a very very busy place during the summer and you will deal mostly with drunks and underage drinking. Im not a cop but have been to OC many many times and my aunt and uncle live there and applied to the department but did not get hired because of the physical fitness test. Other than that I cant help ya.

What made you look into this department?

My brother looked at that briefly while waiting for his slot to open up at his current job. His impression of it was that it really wasn't worth doing, a lot of cleaning up after drunks and their vandalistic friends. Pay was like $11 an hour. The night manager at Taco Bell makes more than that, and doesn't have to deal with as many drunk assholes (something OC seems to have in spades in the summer time, ask me how I know). He held out for his permanent position, and was glad he did.

    That said, YMMV.

I am not a cop, and if I were looking to be one I would not want to be one there. I live about 30 minutes from O.C. It is as BN and Speedy say, a lot of drunks, vandalism etc. When summer vacation starts for everybody the Locals pack up and vacation elsewhere. However if thats where ya want to go then have at it.

The reason I was looking into it is because ocean city comes up to my college every year and recruits students to work. It would only be for the summer break and I would get 12 credits for an internship. Plus I can count it as job experience for when I graduate and look for a full time position. Thx for the advise guys

DING DING DING I am looking into the same position in my local summer tourist town. Regardless of what my parents say (they say stay where I am for the benefits, pay, etc) I feel this position would be a huge step over any other fresh-out-of-college-no-expirence applicant. It is the same thing here - drunks, parking tickets, etc. Foot patrol, occasional on the road.

I live near OC and it is as others have said. You will be more or less a glorified security guard. With that said, it is also a good way to find out if this is the field for you. I understand that OC's seasonal training academy is very good. They do a wonderfull job getting their seasonal officers ready in a very short time. It also looks good on an app to have some kind of experience. It may not turn out to be exactly what you want, but it will be a step in the right direction for someone who is in college.
And your whiney *** crybaby excuse would be....

I'm pretty sure that 8 years later, he won't be back.

From what I know, the OC written test is like any standardized test. Not terribly difficult. Math and reading. Background issues drop more candidates.

Agreed. The OP has not logged on since 01-07-2004.

If you have information or questions, please start a new thread rather than digging up threads that have had no activity for long periods of time.

Also, an introduction would be nice.
