Extended Police Academy: Pros and Cons?

Hey guys, I just wanted some advice for those who have taken an extended police academy here in CA. Basically, its a tues and thurs night class along with every saturday. I have one more year in my enlistment with the Coast Guard and wanted to attend this program to get the ball rolling. Any comments or advice???

Your police academy is Tuesday/Thursday nights along with every Saturday? How long does that schedule last? If it lasts as long as you have left on your Coast Guard contract, I suppose it would be a pretty good deal. You could focus on doing well on all the tests and be good to go when you're finished with the CG.

Here in Honolulu the academy is Monday through Friday with some Saturdays for seven months (I realize you're in the Coast Guard and couldn't attend an every day academy). Class starts at 6 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. PT at noon outside in full sun. Sounds like fun.

the academy is 10 months long due to the extended period. it'll almost be perfect timing, finishing both my enlistment and the academy. i ultimately hope to just put on a police uniform when i finish that year. i just dont know what its like compared to a full time program and how much police depts consider recruiting inside an extended academy program.
