    LE oppurtunities

Well I have been LE hunting for a couple of months now. I'm knee deep into Texas DPS and I have applied to a couple of local PD's. So I have a question, I just got out of the US Army (82nd ABN) where I spent four years. I got out as a E-5/SGT and spent most of my time in a Scout/Recon platoon. I'm in school now for criminal justice and only have about 10 college credits so far. I'm curious about other options too that I may not even know about. Is there other routes available in LE? Anyone know of any agencies that except entry level applicants with great military history and good record. I just want to know that I'm exhausting all my options.

Look into federal uniformed police positions which you can find at www.usajobs.opm.gov. Search under series 0083. Uncle Sam will buy out some of your active duty time toward retirement. You may also be able to use Veterans preference to give you a better shot at a job.

Well that's good to know, thanks for the post. I got on USAjobs and looked around a little but I wasn't too sure what job titles was in my entry level range. I really appreciate the comment.

If you prefer to stay in Texas, look into Dept of Veterans Affairs Police, Department of Defense Police or something along the border. VA and DOD don't have maximum age. If all else fails you can always take a job out of state and eventually find a job in Texas and you'll have federal hiring preference and Veterans preference. You could always get into a Law Enforcement support position too. The FBI is doing a huge hiring drive right now. It'll be highly competitive but if other federal employees transfer in, that should leave their jobs to fill too.

Good luck, you'll find this forum pretty helpful as just about every federal agency is represented.
