How fast can the process be??

Hi everyone! I'de like to thank rdp and samual for responding to my question........heres another one..... I'm applying to a dept. that is going to start their academy class in early March. I'm steadily moving along with the pack and the dept. just finished the last of the BPAD screening periods. I still have to do a polygraph, backgroung check, oral board (if I get that far this is when I get a conditional offer) then off to a drug screening and phyc. test. I can't really say because this is my first time around but thats just a lot to get through in only 2 months..............is this a normal pace ????

The shortest I have seen was 3 mos.and that was for a lateral group. The average here is between 9 mos. and a year from the first test to academy start.

I took the written test in the beginning of October and I will start right around the 1st of January. I am a newbie, not a lateral. I did know a number of folks in the department, so that sped things up a tad too.

I work in NV. With the lack of funds affecting LE, it is rare to have a fast hire around here.

That wasn't too encouraging; I haven't even taken my written test yet! :(

    Aloha,

I turned in my application to take the test in May 2003. I finally took the initial test in July. Since then, I've gone through the personal history questionnaire packet, reviewed it with several detectives, taken 6 or 7 psychological exams, had a psychological interview and finally had my polygraph today. I've passed everything up to this point. My next step is to have a medical exam and take a physical fitness test.

Oh yeah, I received the conditional job offer in November. When, not if I pass the physical/medical exams, I will be starting the academy in April of 2004.

So here in Honolulu the process takes about a year to get to the academy. The academy itself lasts seven months. When you graduate you will then be a probationary officer for 18 months.

The grand total to become an actual Honolulu Police officer is approximately 3 years.

    aloha,
    Joel
