    NYPD PYSC Background

    Hi everybody,

I'm taking the exam in February. I'm a college student turning 21 in the upcoming year. I really want to join the NYPD more than anything my only problem is when I was 16 I was put on depression/anxiety meds for a few months very low dosages and then I stopped them cold turkey. Its almost 5 years since. I've lived on my own for the past 4 years, carry a job, Deans List at school but this one dark page in my history might dead my shot with the NYPD. I know I'll do great on the exam, but will I get past the psyc test?
    Thanks for your advice!

You have to be honest and disclose everything. It's definitely not going to help you but there's only one way to find out.

I know there are some others on this board who can give a better answer, but if I recall certain medications are a no-no.

Good luck. It won't hurt to find out.

Thanks I'll look into it. I'd be really upset if I get DQ'd. I don't really remember much of what they put me on, they threw a bunch of things at me , some i tried for a week and then never renewed. It was my mother telling them to give me whatever. I remember Lexapro was the only thing I was taking for a period over a month.

They're gonna expect you to have more information on it than that. Get your records and look this way you're prepared to give it to them, not the "oh i'm not sure" look. Show them it was no big deal rather than them having to dig and find out.

Most people who have some past pysch issues end up getting put on review/hold until they can show the forms needed to make the final determination. Once you are on this hold, it is almost impossible to get a straight answer and get your self off, Even if its something minor.

So i suggest you have every bit of information you can possibly get (official forms, dates etc.) and have it ready so you can possibly avoid this , if they dont decide to DQ or put you on review.
