    Background credit check

Hi i am a 35 yr old male looking to persue a LE career. I have always wanted to do this but i ended up going into auto collision repair ,since thats what my family was already in. Now that the industry is very slow and afraid of what the future may hold i figured now is the time to pursue my dream.
The problem is a couple of years ago i filed for bankruptcy due to the slow auto industry and my wife having cancer three times in the last 10 years the bills just kept piling up. We ended up paying the medical bills but fell behind on everything else. After doing research on this career i noticed you had to have good credit in order to qualify.
My question is do i have a chance or is my dream just that,a dream?
If i do have a chance will it be hard to be accepted to the academy?
Thank you for your advice in advance

Time is your friend. Get things in order, get a few years of keeping current with everything, and give it a go then.

I agree...I would give it time. Since I decided I want to become an officer, I began my credit repair. I have since had many collection accounts removed, and I added new credit lines. Im about 6 months into my new payments, and pretty much each month my credit score goes up.

BK's discharge pretty much like everything else. Let the BK discharge, then go from there!

Also, if you need any help with credit issues, I would be glad to help you out!

Check with the departments your interested in. My department has a hiring cutoff of 35 y.o.

You'll be looked at in a different light. It would be different if you filed for bankruptcy because you couldn't control your spending. This is something completely different that can be explained during the background investigation.

The bankruptcy can not be used as a determining factor in hiring or not hiring you. It is irrelevant. What is relevant is why you filed bankruptcy. If what you say is the truth, then the reason for filing should not effect you either way. You cannot control when you or your wife gets sick. The big points are why you filed, what you have done in attempting to prevent having to file again, and what is your current credit situation. It doesn't matter whether your bankruptcy has been discharged or not. If it was a chapter 13 then as long as you are making timely payments, your fine. If you filed chapter 7 there are no other ongoing requirements.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
