With no college degree or military experience it might be a little difficult to become a LEO. But it's not impossible. It's great that you don't have a criminal history and your last traffic violations where almost a decade ago. I'd say you have a pretty good chance. But let the LEO who most likely posts under me give you more insight.

From what you divulged, the only issue would have been the reckless driving. However, nearly 10 years has passed and I wouldn't see that being a problem now as long as you've got a clean driving record between then and now.

College would be helpful. I'd say take a couple of years to get a general associates then give it a go.

Right now you meet the MINIMIM requirements, you will be competing against individuals who have more to offer ie experience and degrees.

depends on the agency IMO. Also what you have been doing for the past 10 years instead of going to school or military.

Roger dat question: Having more college (Bach, or masters) as a opposed to 60 credits BETTERS your chances to get hired? I was under the assumption that if you meet the criteria for something - they move on to the next...interested in your input Sir.

    thanks

Personally I think a bachelors is a good level of education but department vary. There is no sure way to tell you what they want but if you have no college degree and everyone else does your going in at a distinct disadvantage.

As time goes on I think your going to see just about every department eventually require a 4 year degree.

You're confusing the fact that minimum requirements have to be met (i.e. checking the box if you have the minimum requirement), and having more training/education/experience placing you in a more competitive status over candidates who don't bring the same to the table. It should come as no surprise that having an actual degree would make one more competitive over someone with just 60 credits of work. You can still get hired if you have the minimum requirements, but if that all you bring to the table (i.e. no other relevant work experience training), you probably won't be selected if it's a department with a solid number of well-qualified candidates.

Minimum requirements are something all applicants HAVE to meet, but you can certainly increase your individual odds of getting hired by a good department if you EXCEED the minimum requirements.
