LAPD BI Coming Up Help Please!

Hello everyone, my name is Shawn. I am new to these forums and have been trying to get some help on my situation from several sources.

I live in the Orange County California and really want to become a police officer.

I have a family friend that works in the law enforcement and suggest that it is very difficult for me to join departments in Orange County because I have not built my career towards law enforcement and they are much more selective.
I want some opinions on where I stand...

    -I am 23
-I am a recent college graduate with my 2 year associate degree and i am currently attending Cal-State Fullerton University on my way to a 4 year degree
    -I am a bodybuilder
-No criminal background, no arrests, but i have 2 tickets and i totaled my car
    -Non smoker
-I did do some weed, im 23 and have done it 3 times in my life, THATS IT! No other drugs
-I think this is VERY unfair and according to the LAPD it is almost a 100% disqualificator for me is that i have been diagnosed with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) since i was a child, it does not affect my life, i just have a hard time concentrating SOMETIMES, If you guys can help me out on what you think?

i have taken the LAPD written test and PASSED with an 85%.....I took the PAT And PASSED! now i have my background investigation on monday, i need some help! i put on my preliminary background during the written test and i put I HAVE NEVER DONE ANY DRUGS! i have tried weed 3 times in my life, What Should I DO? and what questions can i expect to be asked during my background investigation, its saturday and my background is monday, kind late i know, but ANY info before monday would be greatly appreciated

The ADD should not be an issue. I have ADHD, and it was not an issue in me getting hired. As long as you learned strategies to compensate, there is no reason why it should effect you unless it is so severe that you can't function in ANY job.

    Question

I don't see anything else there that would DQ you. Make sure to slow down so we don't add any more tickets/accidents, finish your degree, and be honest about the MJ use.

Being a bodybuilder will not hurt, but start working on your cardiovascular stuff now. You will need to be able to run distances in the Academy, and overfocusing on strength training will make that a lot harder later.

Don't get discouraged if you don't get on the first time out. I didn't, and neither did a lot of guys here. Keep applying (at several departments) and you should make it somewhere.

IMO, you screwed yourself by lying on your application...

Dude you're freaking out... take it easy you're young, the LAPD isn't going to go anywhere. Be truthful, honest and they'll make their decision. You can't really control the process, all you can do is like I said, be truthful and honest and leave the rest up to them.

    Good luck

Well I just want it to work this time for me, i will tell them and be honest with them, and just say "HEY! yeah i did put down No on the drug section, i didnt think 3 was enough times to be putting down anything in the drug section, but 1 is too many times to try marijuana, i made the bad decision and did it 3 times, and if you want to disqualify for lying on my application i understand completly and thank you for your time" something to that affect should save me, right? maybe?

You must realize deep inside that you have a huge hurdle to cross now that you lied on your initial application...

Integrity is a must and lying on your first step of the process is not something that shows the trait at all...

The best thing you can do is admit to the BI that you were afraid to admit it but that you did smoke MJ 3 times. See where it goes from there, either you will be DQ'ed on the spot or they will give you a chance.

okay so i took my background investigation today for the LAPD and let me tell you i was very surprised, the process wasnt anything like i thought it was going to be, i put down that yes i used marijuana and that i banged a girl that wasn't 18 when i was infact 18 and an adult at the time, they didnt seem to have a problem with it and they gave me a slip to proceed to the, Yup you guessed it POLYGRAPH, so thats set up on like 12/17/2008 im worried but hopefully i will pass, so thank you for all the info guys and gals, im now going to contribute my $10 so i can help the forum that had helped me soo much

I have to admit I am shocked to hear that they allowed you to continue into backgrounds and poly. Lying on a police application is a auto DQ in almost every department and shoud be in ALL. When asked a question you answer it properly, dont spin the question to beneift you with a better response. 1 Use = use.

you know what dude, i didnt lie i just didnt put down the MJ use on my intial background check, i had to answer over 160 of the BI questions and i answered them ALL TRUTHFULLY that is why they chose to send me to the next step, you know you dont have to kick my *** about this, if your not happy for me then you shouldn't post anything at all, im not a bad person for gods sake i havent, robbed, stabbed or shot anybody and i dont have a criminal record, just MJ use a couple of times and THATS IT, i never bought it, i never sold it, and its never been in my car EVER, I go to school im a college educated student, i have 1 degree and i am currently working on my 2nd, my credit score was well in excess of 750 and i am only 23 years old, it shows that IM NOT A FLAKE and i pay my bills...im a perfect candidate, if anything besides the MJ use there is really no reason why i shouldnt pursue my dreams of becoming a police officer.....i dont mean to come off harsh but thats just how i feel

hey everybody! i was wondering how bad LAPD needs cops? im currently in the hiring process but i just checked out their website and its insane the amount of days there offering testing, i mean there offering written testing every other weekday for like the next 6 months, im getting really worried, i mean that creates alot of competition, and everytime i look at their website i feel less inclined to move further in the process and save myself the time and embarrasement of them saying, SORRY! your not cop material, but thanks for trying... i am currently in the background investigation stage, i took my investigation today at LAPD and right after my investigation they gave me a slip to go to the next step which is the polygraph, the lady at the scheduling window told me everybody that comes into the background investigation walks out with a slip, so i said "im not speacial" and she said NOPE!, and then i called the LAPD backround investigation division and they said not too many people get the slips to move on to the next stage, she said they have to trust you enough that you can move to the next stage in the process, she said most people have to go back and talk to an investigator one on one because they usually have discrepencies in their background, realisticly what are my chance of making it to the academy and becoming an LAPD Police Officer?....i think this question is best answered by someone in the LAPD or someone in the same hiring stage as me, any help is greatly appreciated
