    suspended license

Hey guys, I moved to Washington over a year ago. When I got here I turned in my Florida license, they punched a hole in it and gave it back..keepsake I guess. So recently as I had decided to apply for LE jobs I pulled my dmv record from Florida. No tickets for the past 5 years but right at the top it says my license has an FR suspension, FR stands for financial responsibility. I got my WA license on 11/2007, then it shows WA reports to FL I now have a WA license and then on 01/2008 FL suspends license for pip insurance not reported from insurance carrier. I don't discover this until 10/2008, I go on the FL dmv website and I'm able to manually enter my insurance info. Immediately my license is reinstated stating continuous coverage. I order a new FL license report and it states basically everything I've covered here. Tomorrow I'm going to call FL and see if they can just erase the darn thing from my record but in the meantime I listed it on my apps with a detailed explanation and a copy of my otherwise spotless driving record. Still now that I'm sitting here waiting for test results, I'm worried they may just see my license was suspended less than a year ago and throw my personal history statement in the trash. Also it makes no sense..how can a license from another state get suspended after it shouldn't even exist?

I would not worry about it at all. I had a suspended license once too. On 9/10 I got a speeding ticket from the CHP. A few weeks after 9/11 I was on a boat enroute to Afghanistan.

Everything happened so quickly, I never got the info on where to send my fine, and I was overseas for the court date. Upon returning to the US, I immediately took care of things and my license was reinstated. I had no problems getting hired.

Take a deep breath and relax.

If you were honestly unaware of it, and took care of it immediately upon finding out, I really doubt that they'll hold it against you. Keep the paperwork, just in case.

The record of the suspension will never be removed from your driver's license record, so there's really no point of trying.

If you had a financial responsibility suspension, that means you had a vehicle still registered in Florida while you were living in Washington. If you obtained Washington insurance on the vehicle, they obviously would not report it to Florida's DHSMV, so the DHSMV thinks you have a vehicle registered to you without insurance. If you cancel the Florida insurance on any vehicle while it still is registered, that will trigger a suspension. DHSMV sends notice of the suspension to the registered address on the owner's license, so since you moved that's why you never received it.

And the fact that your Florida license had been turned in doesn't matter. Your driving privilege was suspended, not your license. There are people who have never been issued a Florida driver's license who still have been assigned a DL number by the DHSMV and had their driving privilege suspended for one reason or another.

You already stated your suspension problems along with your domestic violence charge thread. No need to double post same info, answers wont change.

DeltaV thats exactly what happened, it was just one of my vehicles. Thing is I registered it here way before Florida took action. I called Florida and they said if I mail them a letter from my ins carrier stating continuous coverage and a copy of the registration, they will erase the suspension.
