LE hopeful just wondering what my chances are

I am 27 and currently applying for a contra costa county sheriff's department and santa clara county corrections here in california. I was wondering if i could get some of your opinions on my chances of getting hired with a not so perfect background. Keep in mind I have no convictions or arrest. No drug use in my entire life.

-Have never held a job for more than 3 yrs but was only fired from one. All other departures were because of work stoppage or wanting an increase in pay.

-Carried a concealed firearm for jewelry escort job 3yrs ago but was not caught. Only did the job for month.

-Have some delinquent accounts but they are all paid off or current.

-Have done some under the table work while on unemployment.

-Drank a some wine at the end of a shift with a resident on a property i did security on last year.

-Bounced a few checks in my lifetime and had illegal cable several times.

Do I even have a chance?
I'd appreciate anyone's opinion or advice on whether to proceed.

    Best Wishes

It depends. How much time between these "problems"?

On the surface I see a lot of hurdles. Bouncing from job to job can be a negative. The less than stellar moral lapses would be a major sticking point with me.

    Good luck.

    What were you fired for?

-Carried a concealed firearm for jewelry escort job 3yrs ago but was not caught. Only did the job for month.

See CA penal code section 12025, carrying a concealed firearm

-Have some delinquent accounts but they are all paid off or current.

How many are "some"? How long were they delinquent? Why were they delinquent? How long have they been paid off?

-Have done some under the table work while on unemployment.

That would depend I suppose. I can't think of too many people that perhaps helped a neighbor or friend out, and got paid a little on the side for the job. If it was like a second, full or part time job, that was done on a regular basis, that is a different story.

-Drank a some wine at the end of a shift with a resident on a property i did security on last year.

When you say "at the end of a shift" do you mean after your shift was over, and you are off duty? Or do you mean "Ah, it's only an hour till I get off, I'll have some wine."

-Bounced a few checks in my lifetime and had illegal cable several times.

How many are "a few" checks? Did you know there was insufficient funds in your account? The only thing I know about illegal cable, is that it is illegal

Do I even have a chance?

These are all questions your background investigator is going to ask you.

    Responding to potential backgroun questions

Thanks for looking at my situation.

    What were you fired for?
I was fired for leaving my job site unattended. I left because of an emergency back in 03. Youthful indiscretion:mad:

See CA penal code section 12025, carrying a concealed firearm
I checked the penal code but I already knew it was bad. I wasn't caught though and another background investigator told me that I might have a chance because it was some time ago. 3yrs

How many are "some"? How long were they delinquent? Why were they delinquent? How long have they been paid off?
Two accounts were delinquent for some time but have been current for a year or so. The other 3 were paid off within this year but the dollar amount on them is low.

When you say "at the end of a shift" do you mean after your shift was over, and you are off duty? Or do you mean "Ah, it's only an hour till I get off, I'll have some wine."
I mean, "It's 15 minutes till I get off, I'll have some wine"

How many are "a few" checks? Did you know there was insufficient funds in your account?
3 checks that I can remember but only one when I knew there were insufficient funds.

Man!!!! I guess you get no points for being honest with these investigators. I'm hoping maybe one of them needs people badly. Should just pack it in or give it a go? Or even should some these not be mentioned except the credit (They obviously can check that).

You do get credit for being honest it shows you do have SOME integrity. Just because your honest doesnt mean your past discretions will be overlooked and you will be given a job.
