I'm guessing it's not a "typical" sheriff's office, if they is such a thing. I came across this while browsing wikipedia one day. Anyone have much info on them?

civil judgements. I think its been asked on here before. Do a search.
Sheriff's in NY do different things depending on the county.
Nassau county they are only corrections officers (jail guards and prisoner transports).
Suffolk county they are corrections officers OR deputy sheriffs (later are police officers). The COs are the prison guards, the DS do prisoner transports, and assist patrol of the local PDs, and in a large scale incident may assist SCPD, and recently took over the function as highway patrol. The DS also do civil judgements/evictions.
North of the city some sheriff's do patrol just like a county cop.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.
