Multnomah County Deputy Sheriff-Written Test Question

    Hello all,

Can anybody give me any pointers on what to expect on the written test? I will be applying after the New Year.

I noticed to be a Deputy Sheriff a bachelor’s degree is required. Since this position requires a higher standard of education for the new recruit, does the written test reflect a higher degree of difficulty as well?

Based on the level of MCSO deputies I've worked with over the years, I'd say no.

Looking forward to being a court guard? That's what most of them do now....

Hahaha just saw this today. Yeah you caught me, good call. My advice here was probably not the best anyway, as I have never taken that test, or even know which state that county is in.

Jimmy, I'd look at other agencies in the area. The Multnomah commission is even more liberal than the Portland city council and LE is the least of their priorities.

There are some metro area depts that pay as well, if not better and have much more opportunity. MCSO has had to struggle for indentity ever since Portland and Gresham annexed so much of their territory and of course, after Bunnell left....

Multnomah County Deputy Sheriff-Written Test Question

    Hey retdetsgt,

What other agencies can you recommend?

I’m thinking about looking into Beaverton, Salem, and Bend, as well as the State Police.

I was going to check out Portland Police Bureau too, but have been giving it some extra thought, (some were posting on other sites that they micro-manage and are way too liberal), so I don’t know. I really haven’t talked to anyone directly about where to narrow my search. I'm not familiar with the area-I live in AZ.

    PS-Where did Bunnell go?

Any of those would be good. I would recommend OSP, but I have a feeling the state is going to be cutting the budget. And they always cut the state police before they cut anyone else. You might wait until the first of the year and see what the legislature does. Salem and Beaverton have good reputations, I really don't know much about Bend.

PPB isn't too liberal, but the public is. I retired from there, but I wouldn't suggest them. The press and the public are too quick to fillet them on any issue.

Bunnell is apparently doing commercials for some ID theft company. As the farther he is away from me, the better I like it.....

    Thanks for the insight retdetsgt.

I plan on coming up in March. It looks like I have a lot of homework to do. OSP looks very interesting. So do some of the others, I'll probably apply to a half dozen or so.

And yeah, I've never encountered the guy, but Mr. B can really pour on the cheese on those shows he narrates. Ha. Just my opinion though, he’s probably a good cop.

    Thanks again.
