    Question About Age Requirement NYPD

Hello all, I have been wanting to be LEO ever since I was a little kid. Sort of a dream of mine. I am currently 20 years old (D.O.B is 6/25/88) and I wanted to know what exactly is meant by "hire". Can I take the NYPD academy @ 20 years old ? I would be literally 21 when the academy would be over. I work for a huge corporation compromised of mainly P.O. and retired P.O's, from detectives to lieutenants and the whole 9 yards. I am being told that I am able to take the academy @ 20 and that it has been done, and that they are able to make a few calls for me. Is this at all true and possible - I have done a lot for them and they owe me hehe. With this new contract in place it seems like the line for the test is around the block and down the ave . . . seeming like soon they will b rejecting apps . . . I am pursuing a degree in CJ and I know this is what I want to do ! I however want to take advantage of starting my career asap. Thank you in advance for any replies.

If your ducks are in a row, 4-6 months max.

I was hired within 4 months, and they've done it in 2 for some of the "best" candidates. (november exam, january academy).

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

I also heard you have to be 21 by time of filing. Does anyone know if theres truth to that because I am going to go through the process in January which I will still be 20. I'm not sure if I am going to have to wait an extra month until I turn 21.

From what I understand, you can be 20 1/2 years old to enter the academy. Therefore, you will graduate from the academy at 21 years old. Not completely sure, though. Call 212-Recruit and check it out. If that's the case, it might work out for you.
