It seems like it has been forever since I last visited this site......or even been on-line for that matter. I finished the application process for Baltimore County PD a about two weeks ago and was waiting to see if I was selected to be in the next academy class that starts today. Obviously I am not in it but all is not lost. I spent most of last week hoping for a call from my BI in enough time for me to make the move to the Baltimore area (I live about three hours away). The call came three days ago (Wed.). It was Eight in the morning and I was still in bed trying to sleep in for a change. After the caller ID registered who it was my wife yelled "its Baltimore PD" and I was out of bed in a flash. It was my BI and he said "congratulations". I was very happy but it also posed a bit of a problem for me because I didn't have time to move. Fortunately he gave me a choice. He said that they understood my situation and there would be a slot for me in the jJune class if I wanted to wait until then. Of coarse I don't want to wait but it is the smart thing so that is what I will do. Now I have six months to save more money and find a place to live. The kids will be out of school for the summer so that won't be an issue and I can give proper notice at work. I can't wait until June.

Congrats on the offer. If you mentioned to the BI that the later start date would be better for your family, you just added some points for yourself. I just had my final interview and offer. THe primary line of questioning was the impact of a law enforcement career on my wife & kids. It's very important.

The time will pass quickly, you have lots to do. Best wishes for every success!

I still have to complete the MMPI and a medical before I'm official. I am not concerned about either. I was given a prospective start date of Jan 5th or thereabouts.

I'm joining a Nevada Sheriff's department that I've volunteered for for several years.

Start in the jail, go to the academy in later '04 and likely on beat in '05. Very excited and ready to get started. Waiting is the hardest part, 'eh? :D

Next time I am in a pursuit into Maryland down I-83 we go right into Balt. County. I'll look you up ! Only about 6 miles from my jurisdiction boundary to Balt Co ( Maryland state ) line. A LOT of Balt County and Balt City officers live in southern York County. The taxes and REAL ESTATE are a LOT cheaper. Consider this as you look for a place to live.

Areas like Shrewsbury, Stewartstown, Loganville, Jacobus, and the south side of York. Around I-83 exits 4, 8, 10 and 14. The exit numbers correspond with their distance from the state line.

Let me know if you need any recommendations for a realtor OR have any PA related questions ( school districts , good areas, bad areas) etc. I would be glad to help.

Nope. I am about 90 miles due west of Philly. Or you could say I am 4 counties west. Or you could say 150 kilometers if that would give you a warm fuzzy.

I know some of the counties in Cal are HUGE. Not ours. We have 67 of them in PA.
