    NYPD & B.I. questions

Hey everyone, I'm new here as I just stumbled upon this recently. This place looks like it has a wealth of information.

I have wanted to be a police officer for several years now. I am from Upstate NY and took the Civil Service Exam twice now. The first time and second time I received a 90, I guess the scale is different upstate than it is for NYPD since I was top 10 for each city I took the test for. The first time I failed the physical agility test for each city as I clearly wasn't prepared. Moving on from the brief summary.

    1. Does the NYPD require a polygraph? I read a thread on these forums that said they didn't but was hoping for some official feedback on this.

    2. How much does the department weigh on college class attendance? I'm not worried about grades, I'm just curious if they pay close attention to attendance. Some classes I have taken did not even require attendance.

    3. There is a walk-in exam this Saturday in the city of Syracuse. Can I just show up and take the exam without having officially applied first? I looked on the website but it did not say anything about it other than list the dates that they have the exams.

    4. I'm 24 now and graduated high school when I was 17. I am almost 100% sure when the BI talks to my teachers/principal etc. they won't have very many good things to say about me. I was a bully and an *******, but that was over 7 years ago and things have obviously changed. I understand everybody has made mistakes, I've never been arrested and not really concerned about much on my BI since I haven't done anything seriously bad in my entire life and have no official run-ins with the law other than traffic related incidents.

Thanks in advance for your help, this place is great!

    1- there is no polygraph

2- the bi will not ask you about class attendance, as long as it did not effect your grades in college, you are fine. There were some classes i did not go to, instead i studied from the text and probably took more from that class doing that instead of actually going.

3-i dont believe you need to register for the walk in exam, but call 212 recruit to make sure. better safe then sorry!

4- most high schools throw out your records within a certain number of years. Atleast thats how it was for my hs. i graduated in 2003 and by 2006 they threw out my records. I never had a problem in hs though, so if i was you i would just tell your investigator what happened. Be honest about your past and if they dont think its good enough then always have pride in who you are and try somewhere else
