I started the process to become a police officer for a fairly large city. This is not meant to be a "boo hoo, why me" post. So constructive criticism and advice is appreciated. I recently divorced and have been going through financial trouble. I know financial trouble is indicative of many things to law enforcement but it didn't start until then. I have had a credit card go into collections. I also admitted to marijuana use in my late teens which was over 10 years ago and have not done anything since then.
The police force requires a 4 year degree (which I have). I have already passed the PAT and written exam. I am waiting on the oral interview now. I am also a 6 year Army and Iraqi Freedom veteran. I have a solid work and performance history. Like I stated earlier this passed year has been fairly difficult. I was completely honest in background questionnaire and held nothing back. After reading through the posts I feel like that I am only marginably acceptable. I would appreciate any feedback on how I can improve my chances and if my prior trangressions will be held against me. Thank you.
