I tried to do a search, but was unable to find what I was looking for.
My general question is, what is looked for during the medical portion of the hiring process?
The reason for my question is that I am currently 27 years old and have applied to take the NYPD, Westchester, Rockland, Mount Vernon and NY Park Patrol exams. About 10 years ago I went to a back specialist because I was having lower back pain. (I played football and baseball around that time). After an MRI, it was shown that I have a couple of bulging discs in my lower back. I was just given some muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory and I did some physical therapy at that time.
The back pain has not been a problem since then and I have never returned to treat the issue since that time. I continue in playing sports as softball and basketball with out problems.
The second issue is that a year ago I started having some shoulder pain and went to a specialist to have it looked at and an MRI was done. It was revealed that there was some swelling around the AC Joint that was pinching on a nerve, which caused that pain. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot and I did some physical therapy. Since that time the shoulder hasn't given me any problems and I never returned to treat the problem again. As I said above, I continue to participate in sports.
I guess my question is, whether this would be a problem during the medical portion of the hiring process?
And whether I should contact the doctors who treated me and see if they can write some kind of letter stating that there is no major issues anymore.
Clarification on the process would be helpful.
Thanks
